Apharan (Sabka Katega) Review – A Dark, Twisty Crime Thriller That Keeps You Guessing
Intro: Apharan is a 2018 Hindi crime thriller web series directed by Sidharth Sengupta and streaming on MX Player. The series stars Arunoday Singh, Mahie Gill, Nidhi Singh, and Varun Badola. Set in contemporary India, the show revolves around kidnapping, crime networks, political manipulation, and power struggles. Known for its sharp twists and raw tone, Apharan blends action, suspense, and dark humor in a layered narrative.
Review (90 Words): I gave Apharan a try mainly because of Sidharth Sengupta, who also directed Undekhi, and I wasn’t disappointed. The series is dark, gritty, and unpredictable. Arunoday Singh delivers a strong performance as a morally conflicted cop caught in kidnapping and political chaos. The atmosphere feels raw and immersive, with twists keeping the danger alive. Mahie Gill adds intrigue and depth. However, with 12 episodes, the series feels stretched, and some arcs drag longer than needed. Still, it remains a bold and engaging crime thriller.
Review (360 Words): My reason to start watching Apharan was simple — Sidharth Sengupta, the director behind Undekhi. And thankfully, the decision paid off.
Apharan is a gritty Hindi crime thriller that dives deep into kidnapping, corruption, and political power games. At the center is Rudra Srivastava, played by Arunoday Singh, a cop whose life quickly spirals out of control after getting pulled into a dangerous kidnapping case. What begins as a routine situation slowly turns into a web of betrayal, manipulation, and shifting loyalties.
The biggest strength of the series is Arunoday Singh’s performance. He brings both intensity and vulnerability to Rudra. You can see the internal conflict in his choices — he is neither a pure hero nor a complete villain. That moral grey zone makes the character believable.
The tone of the series is dark and unapologetic. It doesn’t glamorize crime but presents it with a raw edge. The Haridwar setting adds a unique texture, while later developments expand the scale and stakes. Twists are frequent and mostly unpredictable, which keeps the tension alive.
Mahie Gill adds mystery and strength to the narrative, and the supporting cast supports the story effectively. The writing keeps you guessing, but at times, the pacing becomes uneven. Certain story arcs feel stretched, slightly reducing the impact of the otherwise sharp storytelling.
Despite occasional drag, Apharan remains an intense and bold crime series. It stands out because it embraces moral ambiguity and unpredictable storytelling.
