Title: BHAGWAT: Chapter One – Rakshas (2025) Review – A Crime Thriller With Power-Packed Performances but Uneven Depth

Intro: BHAGWAT: Chapter One – Rakshas is a 2025 Indian Hindi-language crime thriller directed by Akshay Shere. The film stars Arshad Warsi as Inspector Vishwas Bhagwat and Jitendra Kumar as Sameer, a mysterious professor, in lead roles. Produced by Jio Studios, Baweja Studios, and Dog ‘n’ Bone Pictures, the story revolves around the investigation of a prostitution racket and draws loose inspiration from the Cyanide Mohan case. It premiered on ZEE5 on October 17, 2025.

Review (90 Words): Two strong actors make Bhagwat Chapter One: Rakshas worth a watch. Arshad Warsi delivers another intense performance similar to Asur, while Jitendra Kumar surprises with a completely new shade, far from his Panchayat or Kota Factory image. The movie has a dark, engaging tone but fades too quickly, and Jitendra’s character feels underexplored. Though inspired by real events, it doesn’t quite capture the gravity of the case. Still, it’s a good film — powerful acting, interesting premise, and a new side of Jitendra Kumar.

Review (360 Words): BHAGWAT: Chapter One – Rakshas opens with promise — a dark, mysterious setting, a series of missing girls, and a professor whose calm exterior hides something sinister. Directed by Akshay Shere, the film pairs Arshad Warsi and Jitendra Kumar in a refreshing duo that instantly builds intrigue.

Arshad Warsi, playing Inspector Vishwas Bhagwat, once again taps into the serious, analytical space we’ve seen shades of in Asur. His performance is grounded and layered — carrying much of the film’s intensity. Jitendra Kumar, however, is the surprise package. Known for his small-town simplicity in Panchayat and Kota Factory, he completely transforms into a darker, more unsettling role. His portrayal of a quiet yet menacing professor shows rare versatility.

While the performances keep you hooked, the writing doesn’t always rise to the occasion. The film starts strong but loses its balance midway. The darkness feels rushed, the backstories half-told, and the emotional weight of the real-life Cyanide Mohan case never fully translates to screen impact. There’s potential in the setup — but the narrative restraint and predictable turns make it feel like a “safe” thriller rather than a bold one.

The cinematography captures the tension well — dimly lit rooms, silent corridors, and the constant sense of unease. The runtime is decent, but pacing feels uneven, leaving you wanting more depth — especially around Jitendra Kumar’s arc.

Despite these gaps, Bhagwat Chapter One: Rakshas remains a good one-time watch — mainly for its performances and intriguing premise. The film ends on a note suggesting more chapters to come, and perhaps, future installments could delve deeper into the characters and darkness it merely touches here.

If you enjoy crime thrillers inspired by true stories or want to see Jitendra Kumar in a totally new light, this one’s worth your weekend watch.
