Aspirants Review: From UPSC Dreams to the Realities of Success
Intro: Aspirants is a Hindi drama web series produced by The Viral Fever (TVF), created by Arunabh Kumar and Shreyansh Pandey. It follows three friends: Abhilash, Guri and SK, through their UPSC preparation days in Delhi and their lives beyond the examination. The series stars Naveen Kasturia, Shivankit Singh Parihar, Abhilash Thapliyal, Sunny Hinduja and Namita Dubey. Across three seasons and 15 episodes, the story moves from the coaching centres of Old Rajinder Nagar to the challenges of administrative life. Season 1 premiered on YouTube in 2021, while Seasons 2 and 3 stream on Amazon Prime Video.
Review (90 Words): Aspirants is one of the finest portrayals of the UPSC journey, especially in its first season. The story of Abhilash, Guri and SK captures friendship, ambition, heartbreak and the uncertainty of chasing a difficult goal. Season 2 explores life after success, while Season 3 takes the story into questions of power, ethics and accountability. For me, Season 1 remains the strongest emotionally, but the progression across three seasons makes the series worthwhile. It reminds us that clearing an examination may fulfil a dream, but it doesn't guarantee a simpler life.
Full Review: From UPSC Dreams to the Realities of Success
Some stories are about achieving a dream. Others are about what happens after you achieve it. Aspirants explores both, taking us from the struggles of UPSC preparation to the complicated realities of administrative life.
Season 1: The Dream
Season 1 remains my favourite. Set in Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar, it follows Abhilash, Guri and SK as they prepare for one of India's toughest competitive examinations.
But the series isn't just about books, coaching classes and examination results. It's equally about friendship, heartbreak, sacrifices and the fear of falling behind.
What makes this season special is its relatability. Anyone who has pursued a difficult goal can recognise the uncertainty, pressure and compromises the characters experience. The performances, writing and memorable dialogues make their journey feel personal rather than simply inspirational.
Season 2: The Reality
Season 2 moves beyond the examination hall.
What happens when the dream finally comes true? Does success solve everything?
For Abhilash, the answer is no. Professional responsibilities, bureaucracy and complicated relationships bring a different set of challenges. The series explores the gap between achieving what you wanted and being happy with what you have achieved.
Although I find Season 1 more emotionally powerful, Season 2 adds an important dimension to the story. Success changes your circumstances, but it doesn't automatically resolve your conflicts.
Season 3: The Responsibility
Season 3 takes the story further into the realities of governance, professional rivalry and ethical choices. Abhilash now has authority, but with authority comes accountability.
His decisions affect not only his career but also his relationships and the values he claims to stand for.
The season expands the series beyond personal ambition and asks what it means to do the job well. While the more serious narrative may not have the same emotional charm as Season 1, it gives the characters another stage of growth.
| All Three Seasons at a Glance | |||
| Aspect | Season 1 | Season 2 | Season 3 |
| Central theme | UPSC preparation | Life after success | Ethics and governance |
| Abhilash's journey | Chasing his dream | Managing responsibilities | Facing accountability |
| Friendship | Forms the emotional core | Evolves with changing circumstances | Gets tested under pressure |
| Main conflict | Ambition versus uncertainty | Success versus expectations | Power versus principles |
| Emotional appeal | The strongest for me | Mature and reflective | Serious and layered |
| What it explores | What does it take to achieve a dream? | Does success make life easier? | Can you live up to the position you've earned? |
My Verdict: What I appreciate about Aspirants is its evolution across three seasons.
Season 1 is about chasing a dream. Season 2 explores life after achieving it. Season 3 asks what you do with the power that comes with success.
The first season remains the strongest for me, but watching all three gives the story a larger meaning.
Because clearing an examination, getting a promotion or reaching a long-awaited milestone is not necessarily the end of the struggle.
Sometimes, achieving the dream is just the beginning of a different journey.
