Irumudi Review – A Different Father-Daughter Story

Intro: Irumudi is a 2026 Telugu action thriller written and directed by Shiva Nirvana. The film stars Ravi Teja, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Sai Kumar and Baby Nakshathra. Set against a village backdrop, the story brings together family emotions, a father-daughter relationship and the Ayyappa Deeksha. The film is currently streaming on Netflix.

Review (90 Words): Irumudi is another father-daughter story, but in a very different setting from Piku or Gargi. Here, the village backdrop gives the relationship a completely different feel. The story looks at two fathers and the way each of them raises his daughter. I liked this aspect of the film, especially when the personal and social sides of the story come together. The emotional portions work in bits and pieces, and there are some good moments. The length, however, remains a challenge. Overall, it is a decent family drama with a strong father-daughter core.

Full Review: When I started watching Irumudi, I immediately thought about the father-daughter films I have watched recently.

Piku had one kind of father-daughter relationship. Gargi showed us another.

Irumudi takes the same basic relationship into a completely different world — a village setting, family emotions, social issues and Ayyappa Deeksha.

What interested me most was that the film doesn't look at just one father raising one daughter. It gives us two fathers and two different ways of bringing up their daughters. That becomes an interesting part of the story because parenting, circumstances and the environment around the children are all different.

The village backdrop also works well for the film. It gives the story a certain rawness and makes the father-daughter relationship feel different from the urban settings we usually see.

There are several emotional moments that worked for me. Not all of them landed equally, but there were enough moments where I felt connected to the characters and their relationships.

Ravi Teja is another reason the film holds your attention. His performance is more restrained than what you may normally expect from him, and that suits the nature of this story. The supporting cast also does its job well.

The biggest challenge for me was the length.

The film has enough material to tell its story, but it takes its time getting there. Because of that, my engagement kept moving up and down. There were portions where I was completely into the story, followed by stretches where I felt the film was taking too long.

The second half also becomes somewhat predictable in places. But the father-daughter relationship remains the emotional anchor, and the climax brings the different threads together effectively.

For me, Irumudi works in parts. It is not a film that kept me equally engaged throughout, but the village setting, the family emotions and the two different father-daughter stories give it something to hold on to.
